The marquee on the 500-seat venue spelled the reason for the spiked and studded crowd lining up outside: “TONIGHT. AGRICULTURE. KNOLL.”

In an effort to foster an inclusive audience, the BAFTAs invited Tourettes activist John Davidson, whose life inspired the six-time nominated film I Swear, to this year’s ceremony. In advance of the recording, the BBC issued an announcement to the audience, warning that they may hear strong language due to Davidson’s involuntary tics.
